BIOGRAPHY
My name is Samantha Wojciechowicz but I go by Samantha Woj in my art practice. I am a physically disabled Canadian visual artist. I was born with a rare genetic disorder called Ectrodactyly, a condition characterized by the absence or malformation of the fingers and toes. In 2021, I received an MA in Creative Art Therapies, Art Therapy option. In 2019, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University. These degrees helped me gain a greater understanding of both the material chosen and physical process involved in creating an artwork.
My creative process is influenced by my love of sports. Whether it be as a player or a fan, my love for sports is incalculable. Sports provided me with a place to go and socialize. It also gave me an outlet to express myself and do something that I enjoyed. Summer 2021, I decided to channel my love for sports into my other love, art.
My painting process involves using wall paint and acrylic paint on Canson Canva paper or canvas. Initial marks are made by various sports balls. These marks are made to illustrate peoples’ movement, their feelings and the objects themself. A paintbrush is than used to further highlight them. Imprints made from throwing, rolling and bouncing the balls on a canvas, directs the design for each painting. They embody the active and fleeting movement that occur in sports and capture and hold a space to reflect the unseen marks made in those moments. In turn, imprinting these moments to be immortalized and reflected upon and embodying the sense of community and love one can experienced either playing or watching sports.
In 2024, I completed three live paintings. Two of them were completed in March. I collaborated with the Ottawa Senators to complete a painting during the Senators Black, Red & Gold Gala. The painting was sold in their auction and the proceeds went to the Senators Community Foundation. I also collaborated with Tangerine Bank and MLSE foundation to complete a painting in support international women's month during their game at the Scotiabank Arena. In February, I collaborated with NFL Canada to complete a 9ft x 12ft mural during their Super Bowl event at the Peace Collective store in Toronto, ON. In 2023, I completed two live paintings. In October, I collaborated with Oklahoma City Thunder to complete two 8ft painting before their game again Detroit Pistons in Montreal. In March, I collaborated with MLSE to live paint at the Scotiabank Arena during the Toronto Maple Leafs game against Edmonton Oiler. That same year, I partnered with the Los Angeles Kings where we auctioned a painting of Dustin Brown and raised $8000 for their clubs charity. In 2022, I did a live-painting at Champlain College during the CCAA Women’s Soccer Championship where the winning team received the painting to highlight their achievement. That same year I also donated a painting to the Calgary Special Olympics silent auction and raised $1200. I also partnered with CANFund and made an auction where we raised $4000 to support able-bodied and Paralympic athletes who train to representing Canada. Currently, my artworks can be found in Blackburn Athletics gyms and Scotiabank Arena.

Je m'appelle Samantha Wojciechowicz mais je me présente sous le nom de Samantha Woj dans ma pratique artistique. Je suis une artiste visuelle Canadienne handicapée physiquement. Je suis née avec un désordre génétique rare appelé Ectrodactylie, une condition caractérisée par l'absence ou la malformation des doigts et des orteils. En 2021, j'ai obtenu une maîtrise en thérapies par les arts, option art-thérapie. En 2019, j'ai obtenu un baccalauréat en beaux-arts de l'Université Concordia. Ces diplômes m'ont aidée à mieux comprendre à la fois le matériau choisi et le processus physique impliqués dans la création d'une œuvre d'art.
Mon processus créatif est influencé par mon amour du sport. Que ce soit en tant que joueur ou en tant que fan, mon amour du sport est incalculable. Le sport m'a fourni un endroit où je pouvais aller et me socialiser. Il m'a également donné un moyen de m'exprimer et de faire quelque chose que j'aime. L'été 2021, j'ai décidé de canaliser mon amour du sport dans mon autre amour, l'art.
Mon processus de peinture implique l'utilisation de peinture murale et de peinture acrylique sur du papier Canson Canva ou une toile. Les marques initiales sont faites par diverses balles de sport. Ces marques sont faites pour illustrer le mouvement des gens, leurs sentiments et les objets eux-mêmes. Un pinceau est ensuite utilisé pour faire ressortir davantage ces marques. Les empreintes laissées par le lancement, le roulement et le rebond des balles sur une toile orientent la conception de chaque tableau. Elles incarnent le mouvement actif et fugace qui se produit dans les sports et capturent et maintiennent un espace pour refléter les marques invisibles faites dans ces moments. En retour, ces moments sont immortalisés et font l'objet d'une réflexion et symbolisent le sens de la communauté et de l'amour que l'on peut ressentir en jouant ou en regardant du sport.
En 2024, j'ai réalisé trois peintures en direct. Deux d'entre elles ont été réalisées en mars. J'ai collaboré avec les Sénateurs d'Ottawa pour réaliser une peinture pendant le Gala Noir, Rouge et Or des Sénateurs. La peinture a été vendue aux enchères et les recettes ont été versées à la Fondation communautaire des Sénateurs. J'ai également collaboré avec la Banque Tangerine et la fondation MLSE pour réaliser une peinture à l'occasion du mois international de la femme pendant leur match à l'aréna de la Banque Scotia. En février, j'ai collaboré avec NFL Canada pour réaliser une peinture murale de 9 pieds x 12 pieds lors de l'événement du Super Bowl au magasin Peace Collective à Toronto (Ontario). En 2023, j'ai réalisé deux peintures en direct. En octobre, j'ai collaboré avec le Thunder d'Oklahoma City pour réaliser deux peintures de 8 pieds avant leur match contre les Pistons de Detroit à Montréal. En mars, j'ai collaboré avec MLSE pour peindre en direct à la Scotiabank Arena pendant le match des Maple Leafs de Toronto contre les Oiler d'Edmonton. La même année, j'ai collaboré avec les Kings de Los Angeles où nous avons mis aux enchères une peinture de Dustin Brown et récolté 8000 dollars pour l'association caritative de leur club. En 2022, j'ai réalisé une peinture en direct au Champlain College pendant le championnat de soccer féminin de l'ACSC, où l'équipe gagnante a reçu la peinture pour souligner son exploit. La même année, j'ai également fait don d'une peinture à l'encan silencieux des Jeux olympiques spéciaux de Calgary, ce qui a permis de recueillir 1200 $. Je me suis également associée à CANFund pour organiser une vente aux enchères qui a permis de récolter 4 000 dollars pour soutenir les athlètes valides et paralympiques qui s'entraînent pour représenter le Canada. Actuellement, mes œuvres d'art se trouvent dans les gymnases de Blackburn Athletics et à l'aréna de la Banque Scotia.
